Last week we asked readers about paying employees for travel. Here's what we found out:

  1. Do you have nonexempt employees who travel regularly?
    Sixty percent of responding employers said that they have nonexempt employees who travel regularly.

  2. Do you have exempt employees who travel regularly?
    Eighty percent of responding employers answered "yes."

  3. Do you have a travel policy in place?
    Sixty percent said that they have a travel policy in place.

  4. Do you pay nonexempt employees a lower rate for travel time?
  • Yes, we pay minimum wage for travel time.

  • Yes, we pay a lower rate—but more than minimum wage—for travel time.

  • No, we pay employees at their regular pay rate for travel time.
All employers who responded said that they pay employees at their regular rate for travel time.
